About the Teacher
May Lauren Brinkman has been teaching private piano lessons since 2007. She graduated magna cum laude from Furman University with a Bachelor of Arts in History and Music. While at Furman, she studied piano with Dr. David Gross and pedagogy with Mrs. Ann Guest. May Lauren then earned a Master of Music in Performance with an Emphasis in Piano Pedagogy from the University of Georgia. While at UGA, she studied piano with Dr. Martha Thomas and pedagogy with Dr. Pete Jutras.
Professionally, May Lauren is a member of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA). She is affiliated at the state level with the South Carolina Music Teachers Association (SCMTA) and at the local level with the Greenville Music Teachers Association (GMTA).
May Lauren actively participates in these organizations by presenting continuing education sessions for teachers and volunteering within the organizations. She presented a conference session on music memorization for the 2016 SCMTA State Conference, participated in a plenary masterclass at the 2019 National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy as an improv student, and served as GMTA president from 2018 - 2021.
When not creating music, May Lauren enjoys reading, cooking, baking, and hiking with her husband and their dog.
